2009 International Festival of Lights

The International Festival of Lights is being held Saturday, November 21 - December, 31, 2009.

INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Battle Creek Holiday Parade 6:00pm Saturday, November 21st

Warming House 12 West Michigan Avenue (open each Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.)

International Children's Day Saturday, December 12, 2009 (1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Full Blast and Mill Race Park)

International Children's Day will provide an opportunity for children and adults alike, to learn customs and traditions of many countries in a fun, hands-on event. The Event is being sponsored by Western Michigan University - Battle Creek campus. Refreshments will be provided.

The Battle Creek Art Center will be offering a variety of children's activities including Finnish Stars, German Christmas Tree ornaments, and Polish paper chains. Additionally there will also be a community painting area where children and adults can decorate a large canvas for the holidays. Kingman Museum will also be on hand and will provide activities including Portugal carrots in shoes, Mexico letters to wisemen, India in decorating a banana tree and paper candles representative of Hanukkah. The Battle Creek Japan Club, long been a supporter of the Festival, will be teaching the art of paper folding, or Origami. The Ukraine will be represented in the tradition of decorating trees with spider webs.

Children may also make holiday cards, write letters to Santa and play in the magic snow brought in from the North Pole by the big man in red.

Outdoor activities in Mill Race Park will provide those courageous young people a brisk game of broom hockey and snow bowling.

Following the hands-on events, Santa will have his sleigh at the IFOL Warming House located at 12 West Michigan Avenue from 4pm - 8pm for children to have their picture taken in the sleigh with Santa and Mrs. Claus. A nominal fee will be charged for the photographs.

Ice Sculpting Saturday, December 19, 2009 (Noon - 4:00 p.m. in Mill Race Park)
